ARCHITECTURAL LEATHERWORK · YORK
Specialist leatherwork for the illuminated handrails at Hiscox York, completed under Harcourt London. The project brings leather and integrated lighting together on the building’s central staircase.
Leather within the staircase
Designed by Make Architects, the office atrium contains three sculptural concrete stairways. The handrails follow their curves, introducing a smaller, tactile detail within the larger architectural form.
A shared detail
The Light Lab supplied bespoke illuminated handrails using its Glowrail system, with Harcourt London responsible for the leather cladding. Close coordination between the leatherwork and lighting teams was central to bringing the two finishes together.
Touch and light
The leather provides the hand-contact surface while the integrated lighting traces the stairways. The result places a material felt at close range alongside a line of light visible across the atrium.
